Walmart Toshiba Laptops

May 14th, 2010

Have you ever asked yourself how the big supermarket chains can give products at such low prices? Well, the answer is simple: they made contracts with the big producers for buying very large quantities at low prices and even manufacturing some products only available in their stores. Such a thing happened between Walmart and Toshiba. Toshiba has released in the Walmart chain such laptops as: Toshiba Silver 15.6″ Satellite L455D-S5976 Laptop PC with Windows 7 Home Premium; Toshiba Red 13.3″ Satellite T135D-S1325RD Laptop PC with AMD Turion Neo X2 Dual-Core L625 Processor & Windows 7 Home Premium, Toshiba 10.1″ NB305-N410BL Mini Netbook PC with Intel Atom N450 Processor & Windows 7 Starter 32-Bit Edition and so on.

Over the years, Walmart has been bringing to the customers good products at very good prices. In the electronics department you will see all sorts of items at low prices. But be careful what you are getting. Many manufacturers cut corners to deliver the product at such low prices and still get profit. Toshiba made a deal with Walmart and they delivered a bunch of laptops and notebooks available in stores and on the online stores. Some items are available only on the internet, so visit the web site and see if and how the product is available. Follow this link to get your information: http://www.walmart.com/browse/Computers/Laptop-Computers/All-Laptop-Computers/_/N-3xtzZaq90Zaqce/Ne-2p4j. The thing is that these kinds of products sell like warm bread, so if you have your eyes set on a Toshiba model, you have to be fast.

Searching on the internet for reviews on Toshiba laptops purchased from Walmart, I stumbled across good things and bad things. Most people are pleased by the bargain they made when buying a laptop from Walmart: “its great and it has very great value i love it. it plays movies in hd and it has a great screen and plays games really good”; “Exceeded my expectations, especially for the price. If you want an inexpensive laptop that works well, this is the one”. Such reviews you will find all over the web.
What intrigues me is the bad reviews I’ve read. People have been claiming that they didn’t get what they saw written on the package: “I was told it had a dual processor but it has an Intel Celeron Processor 575”. Many other bad words have been said over the time, and I’m not saying that they aren’t true, I’m just saying you should be careful. You should try all the features of the laptop before buying it. Run a simple hardware inspection and see if Walmart gives you what it promises.
walmart-toshiba-laptops-5

The real thing is that corners are cut in order to deliver the good at the price that intrigues you. That is why you will mostly see Celeron and processors. They are not bad, but they tend to overheat and the real speed is much less than the statement. The components usually are poorly constructed and the laptops are poorly assembled. The overall idea is that these Walmart products, even the Toshiba laptops, are of poor quality.
walmart-toshiba-laptops-6

If you know computers, test them yourself before buying. If you don’t, get a friend who is and ask him to analyze the product for you. Don’t spend the money before you are sure you are getting what you want, because you don’t buy a laptop every day.

Toshiba Laptop Hard Drive

May 14th, 2010

As the entire IT industry showed us, technology came a long way in such short time. As expected, everything grew in this period. So did RAM memory, so did CPUs and so on. When it comes to storage devices, we will see that they have come a long way from 12MB hard drives from 12-15 years ago, to 2.5 TB hard drives we can find today.

Replacing hard drives is not an easy task. Seeing the large number of models available today, you don’t know what to choose. When it comes to desktops, you will choose according to the size of the hard drive you want and the spending limit. You can extend the memory capacity by adding another hard drive or you can replace the existing one. It’s your choice. This doesn’t apply to laptops as well.

You see, when you own a laptop you have to consider a number of conditions for new hardware: it has to be compatible technology; it has to fit (because of the limited space inside a laptop you have to replace your old hard drive); and you have to afford it. The usual size of a laptop hard drive is around 1.8 inches, but small differences may cost you. Toshiba has made a list of compatible hard drives that you will find on their site http://www.toshiba.com/. This is not the only solution, because you can find on many hardware online stores the same facility. For example, http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/ has the “Identify your hard drive type” page http://www.sparepartswarehouse.com/LaptopHardDriveInfo.htm.

toshiba-laptop-hard-drive

This is just an example, because you can find many such applications to help you select the correct hard drive for your laptop. When you will be confronted with a list of hard drives you will see names like A000018070 or K000037820. You will find a selection of hard drives with storage space from 40GB to 1TB for Toshiba. The bigger hard drives are usually external hard drives. You will have to decide between IDE hard drives and SATA hard drives. Most motherboards have sockets for both types. The larger editions you will find are SATA. IDE hard drives are considered out of date and few companies make them any more, but you will definitely find them in stores.
toshiba-laptop-hard-drive-2

Another matter is weather to buy new hard drives or second hand ones. The answer is simple: buy new ones. It’s not a snobby answer or in favor of the manufacturers, it’s just the practical one. When buying RAM memory or CPUs, it doesn’t matter that much. When you are searching for hard drives, the situation is different. You see, hard drives have a life spend according to a number of rotations. This number of rotations is not a standard figure, but it does exist. I will tell you a little story that happened to me. I bought 2 identical SATA HDD of 160GB and I installed them in a mirrored set. Theoretical, both hard disks were to be used as one. That meant the same usage degree. The thing is they broke at 2 days distance one of the other. Toshiba hard drives don’t make an exception. You don’t know the usage degree of a hard drive, even if you know when it was made. You might wind up with a hard drive that will work for half an year and that is not a good situation.

When looking for a hard drive for your Toshiba, search for a compatible new hard drive to make sure you don’t buy a wrong item.

Toshiba Refurbished Laptops Uk

May 14th, 2010

Refurbished laptops have been around since the first mass production models have invaded the market. Everyone is looking for cheaper items, sometimes even with the cost of quality. Refurbished is just another word for second hand. You know you’ll get a used item, but the money you will save by doing this can be very useful. The difference between refurbished and second hand is that the item is repaired (if broken) and even made look like new. But the basic components are used. Another thing is that with the refurbished one you get warranty, usually for 3 months, but you can get even 6 months.

Looking for refurbished laptops in the UK can be some how tricky. You need to know what to look for and you need to find the right price. Either you search for a refurbished laptop or a new one, the first step is the same: you have to know the purpose of the device and the cost limit. The purpose will be set by your needs, but don’t rush. Usually, the purpose is influenced by the costs, so you might have to settle for the main need that driven you in buying a laptop. Here is the trick: you can find something closer to your demands if you search well enough.

toshiba-refurbished-laptops-uk

Toshiba is a cheap brand, and by this I don’t mean it in the bad way. Searching for Toshiba refurbished laptops can be a very good idea. In the UK you save more than 50 pounds just getting a refurbished Toshiba laptop over the internet. For example, we found Toshiba NB200-12U 10.1-Inch Netbook (Atom N280 1.66 GHz Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD, Up To 4 Hours Battery Life, Windows XP Home, Black) in 4 online stores. The prices were between 205 pounds to 230 pounds. This may not seem much, but it may make a difference. When it was released, this notebook could be found in stores for more than 350 pounds. And so on.

There are specialized web sites and online stores dedicated to refurbished laptops. Usually you find similar products at similar prices. The idea is to find the best offer. If you set your eyes on a particular model of Toshiba, try to search for it in different places. You just have to type the model’s name and the word “refurbished” next to it in a search engine and you will find a list of online stores ready to make you an offer. If you decide to look in real computer stores, you won’t get the wide range you get over the internet, but you might find something cheaper. Usually that’s not the case because the owners of a real store have much more expenses than the owner of an online store, but who knows.

toshiba-refurbished-laptops-uk-2

You can search forums and find a second hand laptop with a better price. This way you can meet the owner and ask him anything you want to know about the laptop and you can even bargain. Usually you will get better prices this way, but you have no guarantee that everything is true and you will get what you were promised.

The best way is to get refurbished Toshiba laptops from the online stores. You will get warranty and assistance when needed. In the UK you will save up to 30% just having a refurbished item.

Toshiba Laptop Docking Station

May 14th, 2010

The world of accessories for laptops is a very profitable department. So, no major manufacturer can afford to ignore accessories production and development. Docking stations have been released because of the need of the laptop user for more USB ports into his laptop. Although docking stations are massive in size and weight, more and more laptop owners tend towards using them. In fact, a docking station transforms your laptop into a desktop. The great thing about it is that it doesn’t affect the mobility of the laptop because you attach it when you are at home and you can detach it when you want to leave and take the laptop with you.

Toshiba released in January 2010 the first universal docking station, the Dynadock U. The features are amazing, but not so special:<

  • One cable connection from your PC to all your devices
  • Universal compatibility with Windows 32 bit (XP or Vista) or 64-bit (Windows 7)
  • Built-in HD Digital Video card supports up to 1920×1200 resolution
  • Built-in Digital Audio card adds virtual 7.1 surround sound though S/PDIF port
  • Space-saving upright slim design reduces cable clutter
  • View up to three displays simultaneously (PC display, external display connected to the PC, external display connected to Dynadock
  • Hot swappable – add or remove most devices without rebooting the PC
  • Easily and safely undock with undock button.
    toshiba-laptop-docking-station-4

The dimensions of this dock are not impressing, but you can’t really carry this thing around when you are traveling or just using the laptop somewhere else. The dimensions and weight for this Toshiba docking station are: 1.8” x 3.1” x 8.75” and 1.13 lb. That is not too much, but when you hook up all the cables, you have yourself a handful. It’s really frustrating to connect and disconnect all the cables in a short period of time, so leave them in and use the dock only at home or at the office.

This system has all the ports you can possibly need: six USB 2.0, S/PDIF, Ethernet (10/100 LAN), VGA, DVI, mic, headphone and lock slot; so you can plug to your laptop all the devices you can use at once. The Dynadock U extends the capabilities of your laptop so you don’t have to plug and unplug cables to fit your laptop’s compact design.

    toshiba-laptop-docking-station-5

What is really amazing is the fact that is doesn’t appeal just to Toshiba laptops. The brilliant technicians at Toshiba made a docking station that can be used be anyone for any laptop brand or model. The minimum system requirements for your laptop (Toshiba or anything else) are:

  • · PC with 1.2GHz processor
  • · Windows® 7, Vista or XP with SP1
  • · 512MB of RAM
  • · USB 2.0 port
  • · 30MB disk space
  • · CD-ROM drive

Docking stations usually depended on the brand of the laptop, or even the model. This gives Toshiba the advantage in the marketing department, making Toshiba one of the leading manufacturers in the laptop industry.

  • Fn Keys On Toshiba Laptops

    May 13th, 2010

The Function key, a.k.a. Fn key, is a modifier key found on most keyboards today. Its utility can be found especially on laptop keyboards because there you have to use compact layouts combining keys which are usually kept separate. You can find it in full-sized ‘multimedia’ and ‘office’ keyboards as the F Lock key. When combined with other keys you get shortcuts to control display and audio settings.

When using Toshiba, you should know that the combination between the Fn key and the other function keys is unique. You will find the list of combination on the internet, but it would be advised to search for the list on the official Toshiba web site:

The function keys ( F1 to F12) are programmed to execute different functions when pressed alone. On the Toshiba keys you will also see some icons that suggest the utility of the keys when pressed in combination with the Fn key. Also, there are many combination between the Fn key and the soft keys.

    fn-keys-on-toshiba-laptops

We will first write down the combination with the function keys:

  • Fn + F1 will blank the screen to  prevent others from accessing your data; if no password is set, the screen will be restored when you press any key or press the Touch Pad.
  • Fn + F2 -the Power Save Mode is displayed in a dialog box. Continue holding down Fn and press F2 again to change the setting.
  • Fn + F3 -the computer enters Standby; a dialog box will appear for verification.
  • Fn + F4, the computer enters  Hibernation.
  • Fn + F5 to change the active display device; hold down Fn  and press F5 again to change the device; hold down these hot keys for five seconds the selection  to return to LCD.
  • Fn + F6 decreases the display brightness in decrements.
  • Fn + F7 increases the display brightness in increments.
  • Fn + F8 to select which type of  wireless communication you want to use; a dialog box will appear for you  to select Bluetooth or Wireless LAN functions if both available.
  • Fn+F9 enables or disables the  Touch Pad function.
  • Fn + F10 or Fn + F11 to access the integrated  keypad. When activated, the keys with gray markings on the bottom edge become numeric keypad keys (Fn + F11) or cursor control keys (Fn + F10).
  • Fn + F12 (ScrLock) to lock the cursor on a specific line.

Now, we will write down the Toshiba Fn key in combination with other keys:

    fn-keys-on-toshiba-laptops

  • Fn + ESC in a Windows environment  turns sound on or off.
  • Fn + Enter to simulate Enter or the enhanced keyboard’s  numeric keypad.
  • Fn + Ctrl to simulate the  enhanced keyboard’s right Ctrl key.
  • Fn + space keys change the  display resolution. Each time when you press these hot keys, the display resolution changes as follows: The available resolution depends on the model. With WXGA+, you can change the resolution between 800 × 600 and      1440 × 900 pixels. With WUXGA, between 800 × 600 and 1920 × 1200 pixels.
  • Fn+1 decreases the size of the icons on the desktop or in applications
  • Fn+2 increases the size of icons.
    fn-keys-on-toshiba-laptops-2

The last two shortcuts (Fn+1 and Fn+2) are named Toshiba Zooming Utility shortcuts.

It may take a while to get used to the combination between the Toshiba’s Fn key and the other keys, but you will see it’ useful. You don’t have to go to the control panel and change the settings; you have the tools much closer.

  • Toshiba Laptop Flickers Different Colors

    May 13th, 2010

Toshiba is a low cost brand, as well as Acer and others. This may be a problem for some, but the sales for there brands are very good. Despite rather good manufacturing, problems tend to appear for most brands, but especially for low cost brands.

Many Toshiba laptop users have been reporting problems with the screen display. Apparently, the screen flickers, also the colors change and the resolution is all “pixilated”. Actually, in the United States, the officials of Toshiba have admitted problems on the Satellite 1800 Series, Satellite Pro 4600 and Tecra 8100 personal notebook computers whose screens flickered, dimmed or went blank due to an issue with the FL Inverter Board component. They reached a settlement in which Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (”TAIS”) paid the repairs for the FL repairs and extended the affected models warranty with an additional 18 months.

    toshiba-laptop-flickers-different-colors

Such reports of Toshiba laptops flickering and changing colors have been encountered in Europe as well, but no official measures were taken to resolve the situation. We sum up a bunch of solutions that may help you with these problems. The first thing is to find out if it’s a software problem or a hardware problem. Boot the OS in safe mode and see it the same thing happens. If it does, try to reinstall the visual drivers or check Toshiba support centre for updates on your drivers. Some report that they have fixed the flickers and different colors by running the Disk Defragmenter, but I doubt that will resolve anything. If these don’t work, see if you’re still in warranty and get your Toshiba laptop into the shop.

If these don’t work, it’s a hardware problem, so if warranty doesn’t cover you, you have two solutions: try to repair the laptop screen or use an external monitor. Using an external monitor transforms your laptop into a desktop, and as long as you use it just in the house, it’s fine; but if you need it outside, it might be a little tricky.

    toshiba-laptop-flickers-different-colors

Repairing it may be a better solution. So, if you want the short way, take your laptop in shop for repair. If you want to play a little and you think you can manage, try to fix it yourself. First, tilt the screen down towards the keyboard and see if the screen goes back to normal; if it does, it may be a problem with the cable connecting the screen to the motherboard. Disassemble the screen and the front panel of the laptop and redo the connection. It may be a good solution. Another thing you can try is finding another cable that you know works and replace your old one just for a few minutes and see how this works out. If this isn’t the problem either, we have bad news: either the screen is broken or the FL inverter board is.
    toshiba-laptop-flickers-different-colors-2

In these cases, you have to pay something more than a new cable. If the FL inverter board is broken, take it in shop. It’s hard to repair yourself and you need some additional equipment. If the screen is the problem, you will have to buy another one. To limit the costs, you can search for a second hand screen, but be sure it works and it’s right for your Toshiba laptop.

Toshiba laptops that flicker and change colors have no easy solutions, you have to search for the right one, and as possible, try to limit the costs.

    Toshiba Laptop Drivers

    May 13th, 2010

Every computer needs a series of software tools in order to work right. Every time you install Microsoft Windows on your Toshiba laptop you will need the correct drivers for your laptop. Searching for the right drivers is not hard. You just have to know the model you are using and the hardware updates (if that is the case). If you have a standard model and you have never made changes on the hardware side, it’s enough to type “Toshiba (model) drivers” into a search engine and you will find pages from whom to download the necessary drivers.

The best way to get the Toshiba laptop drivers right for you is to go on the Toshiba Support web site (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download). There you will find all the drivers you may possible need for a Toshiba laptop and all the software updates. Following this link on to the online Toshiba Support centre you will directly access the download page. There you will find a very useful search engine that will provide you the best updated drivers. There are three filters for you to use to refine the search. The first filter demands you to choose the category of Toshiba products. From the three subcategories (laptops, accessories and projectors) you will have to choose laptops. This will take you to the next filter, where you will have to choose the family your laptop is from (Qosmio, Sattelite, mini notebook, Sattelite pro, Portege or Tecra). After you click on the right family, in the next box you will see the list of models that belong to the selected family. Select the model you own and click GO. This will show a list of downloadable drivers for whatever you need on your Toshiba laptop. You will see software for BIOS updates, drivers for installing Windows, and so on. For other Toshiba products, like accessories or projectors, you just change the key words in the search engine and follow the steps written above.

    toshiba-laptop-drivers

Once you get the Toshiba laptop drivers, you may want to hold on to them so you don’t have to go through searching on the web and downloading them all over again. Just make a CD with these and you can use them whenever you need. This may be useful when traveling a lot. If Windows brakes down, you will need a CD to install it, and then you will need the drivers. If you get a wireless connection, it will take forever to download the drivers, or you won’t be able to do it. So, it’s better if you saved a copy of the drivers on a different partition than the one that hold the OS, or on a CD. It will prove very useful in time of need.

    toshiba-laptop-drivers-2

Another solution may be not using Windows and giving Linux a chance. It spares you from the trouble of downloading drivers because it holds all drivers you need and it downloads everything off their servers. You just need a good internet connection. The advantage of Linux is that this OS is more stable and it saves much of the laptop’s resources. The downside is that there aren’t that many applications available as for Windows, and when converting them for Linux usage they don’t work every time.

So, whatever the reason for searching for Toshiba laptop drivers may be, go to the online support center (http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/support/jsp/home.jsp?nav=Download), download them using the instructions above and save a copy on your computer or a CD.

    Toshiba Satellite Pro L300-29d Laptop

    May 12th, 2010

Toshiba released the Satellite l300-29d for the business target. It’s one of the cheapest models that can be found on the market. But don’t get fooled by the price tag. We will look beyond the price and try to analyze it as it really is.

It’s a 15.4 inch laptop that promises good battery life and good performances for standard usage. It’s a business savvy notebook that assures you it won’t give up in your time of need.

When you look at the casing you will not find something really special. It’s something more than you might expect, but nothing to stand out. The glossy finish means you will have to wipe out fingerprints as often as you can, because it’s a fingerprint magnet that shows. The stripped pattern makes it kind of attractive, but not to special. Despite a hint of flex here and there, the overall casing is solid built.

When opening the laptop, we will find the same high-gloss finish on the keyboard surround and palm-rests, but at least the touchpad and keyboard are matte. The keyboard is what you need: it has good response time and a handy set of shortcuts to the left. You will also get a physical Wi-Fi switch, volume control wheel, and a set of multimedia buttons below the screen that are very useful when you get to use the laptop.

    toshiba-satellite-pro-l300-29d-laptop

When looking at the performance table, we will find this configuration:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz processor
  • Intel X3100 Integrated Graphics
  • 2GB RAM DDR2
  • 160GB (5400 rpm) hard drive
  • Windows XP Professional OS
  • 15.4″ WXGA 1280×800 screen
  • Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g)
  • 10/100 Ethernet LAN
  • Modem port
  • VGA-15 pin
  • DVD-SuperMulti drive (+/-R double layer) supporting up to 11 formats
  • ExpressCard Slot
  • SDCard Slot
  • 3x USB 2.0
  • Headphone and microphone jack
  • webcam
  • Battery: 6-cell (4800mAh) Lithium Ion battery
  • Weight: 5.7lbs

It holds no special features, but it assures you all the performance you may need with basic applications. The Intel Core 2 Duo T8100 2.1GHz processor, combined with the 2GB RAM DDR2 and 160GB (5400 rpm) hard drive assure you that you can use the computer as you please on the internet, on business tripes or for homework. This laptop doesn’t do well on gaming usage, but if you get a Toshiba you already know this. It’s main purpose is to offer you reliability on the road. And it does do that because it comes with all you need on a field trip. The wireless connection can be well established by the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG (802.11a/b/g);the built in webcam makes communicating experiences with loved ones much easier to establish; the 6-cell (4800mAh) Lithium Ion battery gives you up to 4 hours of laptop usage(with the right settings) so you can travel without concerns about the battery life; the weight of only 5.7 lbs makes the Toshiba Satellite l300-29d very easy to move around. The USB ports and the memory card slots make it very easy to store and send information that you can’t submit over the internet.

    toshiba-satellite-pro-l300-29d-laptop-2

All in all, it’s a very good piece of technology that doesn’t promise much, but it delivers what you need. When you come to think about it, Toshiba Satellite l300-29d it’s a real bargain.

  • Toshiba Laptop Support Europe

    May 12th, 2010

Owning a Toshiba is sometimes kind of tricky. Toshiba laptops are more attention demanding than others. So, you have to find out what you need and how to resolve some issues regarding your laptop. Also, Toshiba is more of a beginner laptop, so you will experiment with it, sometimes not ending well.

For all these, Toshiba, as well as the other companies, created support centers for the owners of their products. This comes in handy for users when they need specifications about troubleshooting or they encounter some errors that can be fixed at home. It spares you of a trip to a computer service. You can find these centers on the Internet or on the phone. Toshiba’s online support center is more like an online users manual with very handy info that you can pick yourself, thus helping you learn how to diagnose the problem yourself. The other way is to connect to the support center on the phone. Frankly, it’s hard to find a support center with personnel that actually speaks your language. Usually, they hire Indians or Chinese, and their speaking abilities in your language may not be that good. The good thing about it is that you talk live to the support personnel and explain them what’s going on.You can explain to them what your problem appear to be and they try to diagnose it. After they find out the problem they will try to give you advice and wait until you resolve the problem.

    toshiba-laptop-support-europe

When installing a fresh operating system or installing some applications, you will most certanily need your installation drivers. You ussualy get them of a CD you made earlier so you don’t have to download them again. If you don’t have them, it’s a simple task: go to the online support manager (following this link http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/) and you will find there the type of drivers you may possible need. Choosing the right drivers is easier on the European Toshiba laptop support centre because you will find mostly drivers for Toshiba’s European merchandise. You just need to write in their search engine the laptop type and the series on the back. You will find a wide range of drivers, but they ussualy work on your computer too. Troubleshooting a computer is not an easy task, but all the info you can get you will find on online support center. You just have to follow the instructions written on the web site.

    toshiba-laptop-support-europe-2

Actually, you may find the official Toshiba web site with all their products. Software components for your laptop are to be found there. But this applies only to specific Toshiba software (like Bios and drivers). The link for UK’s Toshiba departement is : http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/home/. You do not have to search to the end of the world for an easy solution regarding your Toshiba, you just need to find a support centre. Writing the words „Toshiba laptop support Europe” will return the official Toshiba support center for Europe and there you can do your thing.

    Toshiba Laptop Motherboards

    May 11th, 2010

Laptop motherboards are tricky little things. Toshiba makes no exception. When looking for a replacement or an upgrade you may find yourself in a little pickle. You have to search for the right one for a number of reasons.

When owning a Toshiba laptop, you most certainly look at the costs. You can search for a new motherboard or a refurbished one. Refurbished items are second hand components that were checked, repaired and resold. You can find even new items that were returned after a few days of usage because of minor problems (that were resolved in the refurbishing process), but you may also find components that were used for years but still work. It’s a matter of luck. Refurbished Toshiba laptop motherboards can be up to 4-5 times cheaper than new ones. It depends on where you get them.

    toshiba-laptop-motherboards

The downside of using refurbished items is that you don’t get more than 6 months warranty, and you usually get 3 months warranty. But when you think about it, you can buy up to 4-5 refurbished motherboards with the cost of one new component, so you have to be lucky with at least one of them.

First you have to look for the type of your Toshiba. You will find a compatible one just entering your laptop type along with tags like “motherboard” and you will find a very wide range of Toshiba laptop components. The question is which one to buy. Well, you need to know if you want the same type of motherboard you had before, or if you want an upgrade. If you are changing the motherboard just for the upgrade, keep the old one in case the new one doesn’t work, or if it blows up afterwards. You never know when you may need a spare part. If the old one is broken, you may hold on to it because it can be fun to play with it; you can learn stuff just by playing with it. If you are not interested, don’t throw it directly to the trash; try to find a recycling unit for electronics (we live in a recicling society, you know).

    toshiba-laptop-motherboards-2

Searching for the right motherboard may not be that easy as I made it to appear. You have to search the web for images with your motherboard and compare them to the images of the motherboard you desire. There are online compatibility tests to know if you can fit a different Toshiba motherboard into your laptop, but you can’t really trust most of them. If you go to a computer service, they will know what you need, but owning a Toshiba usualy means you will do the work yourself.

Most Toshiba laptops are built with similar structure, so you will get mainly the same motherboards on similar dimensions. If you own a 15 inch display laptop, most 15 inch Toshiba have very similar motherboards, so I don’t know if you have to worry about that. Just find a motherboard that you think fits, get it and install it. Installation guides are to be found on the internet and follow the instructions there.
